Review of 'THE RED QUEEN' by Victoria Aveyard
So guys this is my first post. I am super excited about it. As this is a
book review of the book 'The Red Queen' by Victoria Aveyard. Yaaayyy.
Anyways lets jump into it.
About the author
Victoria Aveyard is an author and screenwriter, born and raised in a small town in Western Massachusetts. Both her parents are public school teachers, as well as avid film, television, and literature fans. Victoria grew up on a steady diet The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and LOST. She pursued a degree in Writing for Film & Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. After graduating college in 2012, Victoria moved home from Los Angeles and began writing the manuscript that would become Red Queen.
She has since published three #1 New York Times bestselling and USA Today bestselling books, two New York Times bestselling novellas, and continues pursuing her writing career while living full-time in Los Angeles, California.
Author's note
This is a world divided by blood- Red or Silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god like superpowers. And seventeen year old Mare, a Red girl from the poverty stricken stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
But Mare possesses a deadly talent of her own. Only that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of her potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long lost silver princess. Knowing that one false move will mean her death' Mare must use her new position to bring down the regime- from the inside.
Now Mare has entered a game of betrayal and lies.
"This is Reds against Silver, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart".
THE RED QUEEN
So the story starts in the kingdom of Norta, Part of the world divided by blood- Silvers and Reds.
Our protagonist Mare Barrow happens to be a Red, a commoner, a thief, born and brought up in the poverty stricken area of stilts, ruled and suppressed by the Silvers. Silvers, the super-humans with superhuman powers. Fearful of conscription, Mare lands on the doors of the Scarlet Guard, but is asked to pay quite a fortune in return of their help. To fulfill such demands commits theft, gets caught and punished. In fit of rage bumps into a stranger. Getting to know her problems, the stranger provides her with the amount she required. Next day, Mare comes to know she is appointed as a personal server to the Silver king. Arriving there to the palace, all decked up in a Red uniform, seeing the Silvers showing their powers she didn't see what was fore coming for her in the queenstrial. Falling through the lightning shield, while serving, discovering her powers as a RED and smashing a Magnetron with her electricity was quite a fortune. Afraid of her the Silvers thought of hiding her in plain view. Introduced her as a long lost Silver princess and betrothed to their younger son, Maven. And the crown prince, Cal happened to be the stranger, Mare bumped into. Overwhelmed and unable to process all the incidents happening, Mare accepts whatever she is subjected to, whether it is , manner classes' or 'fighting in the arena'. The only friend of hers happens to be Julian, a singer (a person who can manipulate a person's mind until he can continue looking into the person's eyes), trying to find what is it that a Red can have super-human abilities. He finds she not only can control electricity but can also produce it of her own. That is she is both RED and SILVER and ABOVE BOTH. Attaining position among the Silvers, Mare decides to join hands with the Scarlet Guard, to bring down the reign of terror of the Silvers. And well its quite a surprise, she is joined by her betrothed Maven, a Silver, the prince of Norta. Together they really caused a mishap, Mare destructing every nook and corner of the Silver territory only leading herself to the most dangerous trap of lies, politics and the game of power.
Well, I won't say anything more as this is a spoiler free review. I will keep the end in suspense.
MY OPINION
Well! I was not a fantasy book lover. But after reading this one I turned to be one. Its not a very thin book, consisting of about 383 pages, but I guess it took me, all in all 24-36 hours to finish it. This story is not just about power and magical elements, but about the political arena prevailing in Norta and its surroundings. The language which this book is written in is easy to understand. The chapters are quite small which drives the reader crazy to know what happens next!!
The female protagonist, Mare Barrow portrays courage with power to follow her own will, inspiring people to pursue what they want. Every character introduced is worth researching. You can portray it so well in your imagination, that you feel like seeing them in the actual world.
Well as a good news , this book is taken to be made a movie. I am just waiting for it. I highly recommend, that you read the book ' THE RED QUEEN '. Its truly a masterpiece in itself.
Well guys! this was my review. I hope you liked it. Please comment down below whether you liked it or not and also share your reviews with me if you have read the book 'THE RED QUEEN'. I will appreciate your views.
